The mission
Cassini–Huygens · Imaging Science Subsystem
Cassini was the first spacecraft to orbit Saturn. The joint NASA/ESA/ASI mission spent 13 years on the planet, its rings, and its moons, and dropped the Huygens probe onto Titan. The questions were origin and structure: what the rings are made of, whether Titan has a weather cycle, how the magnetosphere works. This mosaic mapped the whole system, the ring geometry, and the planet’s shadow on the rings.
